Project History
King Edward VII Hospital
Over the last 7 years, Moore Salmon Associates (MSA) have completed a number of high profile projects. In around 2001 MSA were commissioned by the King Edward VII Hospital to refurbish various areas, and design and supervise the construction of a new reservoir for the hospital. The renowned King Edward VII Hospital is located on Kings Drive in Midhurst and was an independent hospital falling under the umbrella of the Macmillan providing a 15 bedded hospice unit. The building was originally constructed in the 1900’s where it was used for many decades as a TB sanatorium and later became an independent hospital.
The redevelopment to the Grade II listed building included mundane but essential renewal of the hospitals drainage system and the design and construction of a new reservoir to serve the hospitals growing needs, whilst the existing drainage system had to remain in operation at all times. This posed various complications such as the final change over of the old system to the new one where all connections had to be completed over only a single days operation.
The works also included the complete refurbishment of 2 No. operating theatres which involved 24hr shift working in order to complete works in the minimal possible time with the least amount of disruption. The most prestigious part of this particular project and noticeable development at the hospital was the preparation of plans and achieving Planning Approval for a new cancer treatment suite which included radiography treatment for which the walls and roof were constructed of magnetite concrete with a maximum thickness of up to 2.4 meters in order to provide the necessary radiation protection.
Moore Salmon Associates were responsible for providing the King Edwards VII Hospital with feasibility and conceptual drawings developing those into appropriate drawings for Planning and Building Regulations submission and further development included full working drawings for tender and construction purposes, and contract admission of works in progress.
